Captured

My guess is we are hold hands,
You and I, our fingers tangled
Like weeds, but we were younger then,
Our skin yet to know the effects of erosion

Two shadows lingering,
A moment in time painted
In black and gray, filtered
Through the years of forgetfulness

You’re smiling, I know
I wish I could see you; our faces
We stand, profiles, empty silhouettes
Against the rain-soaked skyline

I’ll never remember, this negative
The only reminder of
Some memory I’ve lost amidst
The sand, the pebbles
Counting the time

We remain, captured in a flash of light
Frozen in time
