with thorns removed

for it to find
one so driven
yet clear of mind.
As the child reached
and gave a tug
the rose did teach
the child it hugged.
Now the child, all grown
keeps the rose in a book
and often is prone
to take a quick look
at what once was shown
and the path she then took
